Summer arrives with many favorites including blockbusters at the box office. It’s a treat to enjoy a movie on a hot afternoon. Lurking underneath the storyline of many a film lays spiritual truths to be gleaned. Such was the reality as I sat in the theater watching Wonder Woman last week. From the minute the little girl began practicing her kicks, I thought, “This is all about spiritual warfare. This is a representation of how we should be preparing for battle.”
Fully equipped with her lasso, shield, and sword, Diana, Queen of the Amazons, could defeat any obstacle. Do we understand the truth of the power we wield with the armor given to us by our heavenly Father. We can be fully regaled in our belt of truth, shield of faith, breastplate of righteousness, helmet of salvation, sword of the spirit, and the shoes of peace. We are mighty warriors.
The minute Diana spun around with her golden headband that had a cross gleaming at the center, I exclaimed, “She’s just like us after we’ve put on our armor.” I almost stood up to kick and fight right alongside her as I celebrated the victory we can have over the enemy who loves to attack and defeat us.
Satan is so crafty in the same way that Aries spoke to Wonder Woman in the movie. He whispered lies in the attempt to fill her head with every type of falsehood. What lies has the enemy spoken to you? We are in a spiritual battle for our children, our minds and our hearts.
We are engaged in a great war here on earth and the statement from Wonder Woman is true, “The only thing that conquers everything is love.” The victory in the battle comes from the love shed for us on the cross – the love Christ has lavished upon us. You are a daughter of the King!
Instead of moving through our days in fear, worry, or a plethora of other things that come flying our way, we have to simply lift the shield of faith in front of us to deflect the arrows that have been launched against us. Throw out the lasso of truth, wield our sword, and stand tall behind our covering. Ladies, we have to prepare, practice, and carry our weapons. Nothing can overcome a locked and loaded spiritual girl.
Not today. Not tomorrow. We are each a Wonder Woman!
