5 Simple Steps to Create a Vision Board

We know being a single mother is hard work. There are many blessings that come with parenting alone.  Let’s embrace the freedom we have to be the role models we want to be for our kids!

As we get caught up in our fast-paced lives we often forget what is we want and how to live a happier, less stressful life.  One of the greatest projects I did for my kids was to create a Vision Board.  Vision Boarding is a technique that is designed to center our energy on what we want to attract into our life. It gives us a sense of focus.

A vision board is a wonderful tool used to dream and to achieve our true potential. Think about the areas of your life you would like to improve.  How would your kids benefit if you were feeling more vibrant and energized?

Ask yourself these questions and write down your answers:

1.  A genie has granted you one wish– what do you wish for?

2.  What is something that YOU always wanted to try?

3.  What goal have YOU been thinking about for a long time?

4.  What has god been putting on your heart?

Let’s get started on creating YOUR vision!

Step 1— Compile pictures: Start compiling the pictures that you can find that are relevant to your goal and vision.  Let yourself have fun looking through magazines and pulling out pictures or words that inspire you.  Make a big pile in front of you.

Step 2— Sort: Go through the images and begin to lay your favorites on a poster board.  This step is where your feelings come alive as you feel the vision taking form.

Step 3Arrange and glue.  Arrange your pictures in a way that gives you an emotional connection to your vision board. After you are done, glue all your pictures in place.

Some additional questions to keep in mind as you gather create and cut your images:

  •  What would you do differently for your family when you realize your goal?
  •  Where would you live or travel to?
  •  What would you wear?
  • what would you like to do for work?

Step 4Strategic positioning: The most important part of having a vision board is having it in a location where you can see it every day. View your board at least once a day. (Mine is on my bathroom mirror), you can put it on the ceiling above your bed, taped to your bedroom wall or on the refrigerator door for starters.

Step 5— Stand back and take a look at your board: What do you see? Does it inspire you? Use this as a gift you are giving yourself. Look at your vision board and be ready to receive. Receiving may require some attention on your part. Sometimes receiving what we want comes in the form of an idea on which we should act or a connection to an individual who may be a part of your manifestation.  Trust that god has placed this vision on our heart for a reason.

Let God guide you by using these visions in prayer. Let him know what you want and ask for his help.

As mothers we have a sense of what it takes to accomplish goals. It is powerful when we practice what we preach.  So, include your child in setting goals and creating a vision board for themselves.  Your example will show them how the process works; and as you grow, they will grow too!
