LIGHTEN UP – (unpacking heavy emotions)

You’re likely reading this blog because you wrestle with a situation that will not, I said WILL NOT, leave you alone! I call it your ‘this’ – that one thing that you simply cannot get beyond.

For years my ‘this’ as a single mother was a concoction of anger, mixed with a cup of fear and two tablespoons of resentment.  I still loved my former husband.  And just when I thought I was getting over him, he’d pick up the kids for the weekend. I’d melt the second I laid eyes on him.  Then all of my heartaches would spiral out of control once again.

Whatever your status in life – whether married, separated, single again, widowed, or whether you’ve adopted kids or never married, you’ve all experienced at one time or another a ‘this’ – that thing that tilts you upside down, an unrelenting annoyance  creating undesirable feelings. Much like an over-packed suitcase, it leaves you feeling like you’re dragging around a hundred-pound duffle bag without rollers. So what’s one to do?

I’m glad you asked! That’s the title of the upcoming Arise Ministries online Bible Study – LIGHTEN UP – (unpacking heavy emotions).  Like you perhaps, I’m personally guilty of stuffing my emotional suitcase with unnecessary clutter.  So how can we take these hefty emotions that remain zip-locked in our souls and replace them with a mind-set that works for us and not against us?

Let’s ask King David in the Bible.  Like me, he was an emotional character – sometimes wonderfully sensible and other times totally off balance. Yet, God called this ordinary man with all his wobbly feelings, a man after His own heart.  Why? Well, I just I can’t wait to tell you!

So mark your calendars and sign up NOW.  The live 8 week Bible study – LIGHTEN UP – starts Sunday night – September 18th, and ends November 6th.  Join me along with an online chat each week.  And if you miss the session, you can watch it anytime on our website.

Friend, I can see it all now.  Yahoo! You’re already beginning to LIGHTEN UP with great anticipation of exchanging your emotional poverty for God’s prosperity.

I can’t wait for us to begin our time together. Grab your suitcase, girlfriend, and let’s unpack.

Shelley Pulliam

Howdy! (A girl from Oklahoma has to use this as her greeting) I’m Shelley Pulliam, Executive Director of Arise Single MOms and former teacher of hormone-filled 8th graders. But my real claim to fame rests in my award as second grade spelling bee champ and my recent gun-handling skills as I train to competition shoot. It helps me be on guard when Satan comes knocking. I’m a voracious reader and can frequently be found at the theater enjoying movie marathons where my record stands at six in one day. I’m a single, never married, who loves to pour into children at every opportunity. Let me know if you have any for sale.
